ART OF ACCEPTING WHERE YOU ARE IN LIFE

ART OF ACCEPTING WHERE YOU ARE IN LIFE

Accepting where you are in life can be a profound act of self-compassion and wisdom. It doesn't mean settling for less or giving up on your dreams but rather acknowledging your current reality without judgment or resistance. It involves embracing both your strengths and your limitations, recognizing the progress you've made, and being open to new opportunities for growth and change. When you accept where you are, you free yourself from unnecessary stress and frustration, allowing you to focus your energy on what truly matters to you. It's a journey of self-discovery and self-empowerment that can lead to greater peace, fulfillment, and resilience in the face of life's challenges.

Of course, life will bring many challenges, such as the death of someone we love, and it’s not easy to embrace them when we’re suffering and wishing those things would have never happened. But if we start cultivating acceptance in our lives right now, we’ll likely cope with future crises in a different way and view them from a different perspective. We will accept instead of resisting.

I am a big fan of Deepak Chopra’s The 7 Laws of Spiritual Success. He dedicates one complete chapter (Law #4) to how we need to receive with open arms what happens to us, because if we fight and resist it, we are generating a lot of turbulence in our minds. He explains that we might want things to be different in the future, but in the present moment, we need to accept things as they are. That’s the way you can make your life flow smoothly instead of roughly.

Things to Accept in Life

Yourself

Our inner critic can make us feel worse about ourselves. However, you bring something to the universe that no one else can bring.

Things Always Change

If there’s one thing you need to accept in life, it is that nothing stays the same.

You Will Always Get Older and You Will Lose People

Acceptance of what is is all about acknowledging that you only live once and time is always running out. Instead of living in the past or the future, you need to live in the present. Do the things you want to do while you can do them.

You Aren't Your Thoughts

Thoughts surface in your mind without your control and with no effort. However, you can pick and choose which thoughts you listen to, so choose wisely.

People Are Both Good and Bad and You Can't Control Them

People are a mix of good and bad. People you view as good will do bad things, and people you view as bad will do good deeds. As people learn, grow, experience hardships, loss, mental agony, and other emotional rollercoaster events, their behavior will change.

Practicing Self-Acceptance

Self-acceptance is a gradual process that takes time and practice. Be patient with yourself and celebrate each step forward, no matter how small.
