Yonsa

What is Yonsa?

Yonsa is employed in conjunction with a steroid medicine (prednisone or methylprednisolone) for the treatment of metastatic prostate cancer, a condition where cancer has spread to other parts of the body and cannot be addressed through surgery or alternative medications.

Yonsa may also find application for purposes not explicitly outlined in this medication guide.

Yonsa poses a risk to an unborn baby if a woman is exposed to it during pregnancy. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should avoid handling broken Yonsa tablets, as the medicine may be absorbed through the skin. Additionally, Yonsa may harm an unborn baby if the father is taking it at conception or during pregnancy. Use effective birth control if your partner is pregnant or capable of becoming pregnant, continuing for at least 3 weeks after the last dose.

How Should I Take Yonsa?

Follow the directions on your prescription label and read all accompanying guides or instruction sheets. Adhere precisely to your doctor’s dosing instructions. Yonsa is typically taken once daily, along with a steroid taken 1 or 2 times daily. Dosage adjustments may be necessary if there is a change in brand, strength, or form of this medicine. Avoid medication errors by using only the prescribed medicine.

Your steroid dosage may need adjustment during infections or times of stress. Do not alter your dose or discontinue steroid use without your doctor’s guidance.

Take Yonsa with a full glass of water, with or without food. Swallow the tablet whole, refraining from crushing, chewing, or breaking it.

Regular monitoring of blood pressure and frequent blood tests are crucial. If you have diabetes, careful blood sugar monitoring is recommended, especially if using pioglitazone or repaglinide.

Discontinuing Yonsa or steroid medication abruptly is not advised; follow your doctor’s instructions on tapering prednisone.

Store Yonsa at room temperature, protecting it from moisture and heat.

Missed Dose and Overdose

If you miss a dose, skip it and resume the next day; avoid doubling up. Contact your doctor for guidance if you miss more than one Yonsa dose. In case of overdose, seek emergency medical attention or contact the Poison Help line at 1-800-222-1222.

What Should I Avoid While Taking Yonsa?

Refrain from eating for at least 2 hours before taking Zytiga and for at least 1 hour after your dose, as food can enhance Zytiga absorption, potentially causing side effects. Avoid herbal supplements containing St. John’s wort.

Other Drugs Affecting Yonsa

Many drugs can interact with Yonsa. Notify your doctor about all current medications, particularly:

  • Other prostate cancer medications, especially radium Ra 223 (which may heighten fracture risk during Yonsa use)
  • Pioglitazone or repaglinide for diabetes treatment (which may cause severe low blood sugar while on Yonsa)

This list is not exhaustive, and numerous drugs may affect Yonsa. Include all medications, both prescription and over-the-counter, vitamins, and herbal products when discussing your current medicines with your doctor.
